Random means random: how the draws work

Where results come from, why past rounds do not predict the next one, and what a long-run return really means.

Where the numbers come from

Every hall on Valdremor draws its results in your browser using the cryptographic random number generator that browsers provide for security work, such as creating encryption keys. A reel cell, a card from the shoe, the face of a moon or a call from the beacon is chosen at the moment you press the button.

Nothing is decided in advance, nothing is sent to a server and nothing reads your history to shape the next result. The same code runs for every visitor.

Rounds do not remember

The most common mistake in any game of chance is to think a result is due. After ten rounds of Three Moons without a triple, the next roll is exactly as likely to be a triple as the first one was: one chance in 36. Dice, cards and reels have no memory, and neither does the code behind them.

The same goes for streaks in the other direction. A run of good rounds is not a sign that you have found a method or that the hall is generous today. It is what randomness looks like up close: clumpy, with long gaps and sudden clusters.

What a long-run return means

Each hall is built so that, over a very large number of rounds, it returns a little less than is staked: somewhere between about 93 and 97 shards for every 100. We do not print the exact figure for each hall, because a number like that is easy to read as a promise about the next session.

In any short session the result can be far above or far below that average. The average only shows up after thousands of rounds. That gap between the short run and the long run is the whole character of a casino-style game, and it is why shards are worth nothing outside this site.

Why it matters for real money

Nothing you do on Valdremor carries over to real-money gambling. A good evening here does not imply future success anywhere else, and real-money games are built with the same long-run edge, only with real losses attached. If you find yourself thinking of the halls as practice, Player care has a self-check and free UK support.
